The West Centre, Glasgow
Graven worked in partnership with Anderson Bell Christie Architects on The West Centre, Children’s Community Health and Care in Drumchapel, Glasgow – a healthcare facility which combines social work and primary healthcare facilities in one building – a ‘one stop’ shop for family services serving a large area of Greater Glasgow. Social work facilities include a nursery day-care centre and the Family Resource Centre. It was also the first of it’s kind to incorporate a wide range of work by artists into the exterior and interior.
Our scope included designing specific areas of the interiors including the design of the reception desk, reception areas, waiting areas and children’s play area. We also designed large-scale graphics around the space including mirrored vinyl manifestations of selected quotations from well-known children’s stories onto glazing, and internal and external signage.
Winner Civic Trust Award 2011; Winner “Special Award for Inclusive Design”, Civic Trust Awards 2011; Winner GIA Award 2010; Winner Scottish Design Awards (Health Buildings); Shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award 2011; Shortlisted for RIBA Awards 2011
