Ruffians, Edinburgh
Graven designed and implemented Andrew Cannon’s ambitious new concept for a masculine yet refined gentleman’s barbers and grooming destination.
Ruffians launched in Edinburgh in 2012 and proved to be such a success that the second opened in London’s Covent Garden. Ruffians doesn’t have a reception; instead customers relax at specially designed ‘iPad high tables’ where they can catch up on emails and social media and enjoy a (Ruffians designed) cup of coffee while they wait.
The shaving area is engineered and functional, with tiled floors and industrial light fittings. The main cutting area features a bespoke solid oak cutting table in the style of a craftsman’s workbench. Contrary to traditional salons, the chairs face each other and create a convivial atmosphere. Hidden mirrors pop up from the central table to reveal leather-line bureaus that neatly store grooming products and accessories. A central vacuum system is built in to the unit to clean away hair and debris without any fuss.
