Hotel Indigo, Dundee
An interesting hotel in a converted jute mill…
IHG required Graven to make a designed response to the local community and history. We combined Dundee’s industrial and more recent creative stories to give us more interesting content that avoids the obvious interpretations of the city’s past.
The public areas are open and flexible, with polished concrete floors and exposed original fabric. We collected unusual and appropriate artefacts to enliven the space (farm equipment to computer games), and created opportunities for ongoing curation.
The restaurant (Daisy Tasker’s) similarly makes the best of the high spaces and original concrete and brick. The best of the guestrooms have exposed brick ceilings and custom designed textiles, case goods and cushions with art prints from Graven.
